SANTA CLARA, CA — Bay Area hip hop producer Traxamillion has died of cancer at the age of 42, according to multiple news reports. Traxamillion, born Sultan Banks, was a San Jose native who is credited for helping create the "hyphy" sound and culture. He worked with a number of Bay Area artists. Traxamillion had a rare form of cancer and had been in hospice at his aunt's house in Santa Clara, his manager told the San Francisco Chronicle. He died Sunday. His record label, Empire, said his death marked the loss of a "true Bay Area cornerstone. "Rest in Power to Traxamillion, the architect of the Hyphy sound and a legendary producer to the fullest," Empire said on Twitter. "Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and fans."
