Description

Code Ninjas, the world’s largest and fastest-growing kids coding franchise, opened their newest center at 4878 San Felipe Rd. in San Jose. Code Ninjas will serve the local area by teaching kids (ages 5-14) about computer coding, robotics, and video game-building through interactive lesson plans. The Evergreen location is owned and operated by local entrepreneurs and long-time friends Mandeep Guragain and Pradeep Khanal. Born and raised in Nepal, South Asia, the two eventually met in the United States while working on their engineering college degrees. Both have been living in the Bay Area for more than a decade. With young children of their own, they see coding as an essential, modern language that will benefit children in the classroom and in the future. Drawn to Code Ninjas’ interactive teaching methods, the pair decided to open their own location to provide a fun way for all kids to learn these important skills. “Whether they’re using an app or a gaming console, kids love playing video games,” said Khanal. “With Code Ninjas, we utilize that passion for technology and give them an outlet to dive deeper. In this environment, kids become game-creators; they’re given the chance to learn more about an area of their life that already interests them personally. We are offering kids the opportunity to develop a skill that will soon be essential for their studies and pave the way for a career in STEM or other creative industries.” Evergreen children can look forward to visiting the new Code Ninjas center to learn how to code in a safe and social environment where gaming is celebrated and STEM is cool. Everything about Code Ninjas is built around fun, which keeps kids coming back for new classes. The center also provides the results that parents are looking for, as their children gain coding and problem-solving skills and hone their interpersonal skills with new friends and teachers. “My daughter completed game-based coding courses and she loved it,” said Guragain. “As a parent, it’s great to see ‘screen time’ converted into something educational and beneficial to their future. For kids, they’re just having fun, but what I see as a parent is a child expanding their knowledge base, fueled by curiosity.” Code Ninjas offers a robust, game-based curriculum made up of nine belts, just like martial arts. The curriculum is self-paced, but not self-taught; kids get immediate help and encouragement from Code Senseis (teachers) and fellow ninjas (students) as they advance from white to black belts. The program keeps kids motivated with incentives along the way, including ‘Belt-Up’ celebrations where they receive color-coded wristbands to mark their graduation to the next level. By the time a child completes the program, they will have their very own gaming app available to the public via a popular app store. Code Ninjas offers a variety of opportunities for children to get involved, including a flexible weeknight drop-in program, summer and winter break camps and Parents Night Out events on weekends. Centers – or ‘Dojos’ – also pride themselves on community involvement through various initiatives, providing neighbors the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of coding and STEM learning.
