SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area. The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt. Dec. 29: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Nesconset Highway in Nesconset at 12:45 p.m. A person was scammed over the phone, and money was taken from their CashApp, police said.Dec. 27: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Devon Lane in Smithtown at midnight. Someone reported to police that they were being scammed by a woman they met through Instagram, police said. The woman threatened to send inappropriate photos of the person to friends and family if the person did not send money, to which the person complied, police said.Dec. 25: Criminal mischief (third-degree) was reported on Leary Lane in Nesconset at 3:10 a.m. A person scratched the side of a 2021 Toyota Rav4 parked outside a home, police said. The person also took a piece of asphalt and threw it through a window of the home, breaking the window, police said.
