Baby Dies In Cartersville House Fire

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Cartersville Fire Department and the state Fire Marshals Office are working together to determine the cause of an early morning house fire that killed a baby last month. Cartersville Fire Department Units were dispatched at 3:33 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5, to a house fire on Oakdale Drive. Prior to arrival, first responders were notified of two residents trapped inside the home. Fire units arrived within minutes and saw heavy fire and smoke. A mother and baby were located inside the home and rescued, then turned over to Metro EMS for medical treatment. The baby was pronounced dead on scene by Metro EMS. The mother, found unresponsive in the home, was transported to a hospital, then to a burn center in Austell for further treatment. The father was transported by Metro EMS to a burn center in Cobb County.
