ATLANTA, GA — Travel on MARTA trains could be stunted Tuesday by COVID-19 effects on staffing, officials said Monday evening.
The impact from the surge in sickness caused by the highly-contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus has made its way to Metro Atlanta's public transportation.
"Select train trips may be canceled because of staffing shortages, due to COVID-19," MARTA officials said in a statement posted on its website and on social media. "Please allow extra time for your travel."

The Georgia Department of Public Health on Thursday, the last reporting day of 2021, showed a seven-day moving average of 13,484.4 positive cases, up from 976.4 on Dec. 1, just after the omicron variant was identified and shortly before the first case was confirmed in the state.
MARTA requires all passengers to wear a mask while using its services, including while inside transit stations, buses, trains and streetcars.
