Upstart Crow Youth Theatre (UCYT) is a non-profit youth performing arts organization in Eugene, Oregon. We provide a variety of theatre education and performance opportunities, including opportunities in theatre, dance and music, through theatre productions, classes, workshops, and summer camps. Our goal is to allow all children, regardless of income, ability, gender, etc., the opportunity to experience theatre arts. We have created a safe and inclusive environment for youth ages 2-18 years old. Special offer for Winter 2022! Sign up for one theatre class and get a second theatre class for 20% off! More information and registration at upstartcrowstudios.org Broadway Kids (Grades K-2) Tuition: $145 for 9-week session Tuesdays 4:30-5:20pm or 5:30-6:30pm 9 weeks beginning January 4, 2022 Know a kid who loves the stage and can’t wait to be a part of the fun at Upstart Crow?! Broadway Kids provides age-appropriate introductions to the foundations of Acting, Singing, and Vocal Technique. This class is the first step in the journey for those kids longing to be Broadway stars. From basic techniques to staging and performance, cast members are fully immersed in all things theatre. Students will re-create musical theatre numbers from family-favorite musicals in addition to learning the basics of theatre through storytelling and short scripts. Who knows, this class might be the first step in your student’s years-long theatre journey! Playwriting I (Grades 3-5) Tuition: $145 for 9-week session Mondays 6:00-6:50 pm 9 weeks beginning Monday, January 3rd, 2022 Ever wonder how your favorite piece of theatre was created? Looking to write and workshop your own stories with friends and fellow theatre nerds? You're in luck! In Playwriting I, you’ll learn the fundamentals of playwriting, including the observation and application of skills in story structure, development, arc, characters, and more. Over the course of this class, students will create new works of theatre together and take their storytelling to the next level! Acting I (Grades 3-5) Instructor: Emily Garrett Tuition: $145 for 9-week session Wednesdays 5:30-6:20pm 9 weeks beginning January 5, 2022 Acting I is designed for students new to the stage, and those who’ve already been on the stage and are looking to reinforce important and foundational acting skills. This class will focus on and enhance the young actor's toolbox. Students are given individual time and preparation for scene work that will improve skills including timing, diction, delivery, body language, facial expression, eye contact, and action vs. reaction. Feel empowered to “take the stage” in Acting I, whether your student is looking to try something new or already have their sights set on Broadway! Song & Dance (Grades 3-5) Tuition: $145 for 9-week session Wednesdays 4:30-5:20 pm 9 weeks beginning January 5, 2022 In Song and Dance, students will use Broadway songs to learn basic musical theatre dance technique and gain an understanding of the vocal technique needed to perform with confidence! In the dance portion of the class, students will learn basic steps that provide a foundation for musical theatre style dance - which involves commanding a strong stage presence and conveying a story all while singing and dancing. In the vocal portion of the class, students will learn the mechanics of breath control, singing in tune, using dynamics, proper vowel formation, and diction while singing everyones’ favorite Broadway show tunes! Term-End Class Showcase Performance As a part of our Covid-19 mitigation strategy, our end-of-term Winter Showcase will be pre-recorded. Performances will be recorded in-class during the final weeks of the term and edited together into a final Winter Showcase. Families and friends near and far will be able to enjoy the performance from the comfort of their own homes! Release date for the Winter Showcase recording will be announced in February. We offered 11 weeks of safe, socially distanced summer camps this summer, were a state-approved emergency childcare provider during the 2020-21 school year, and produced two outdoor theatre productions this fall, all while maintaining up to date Covid-19 Health and Safety Protocols.
