Gov. Baker Takes Test Ride On Green Line Extension

SOMERVILLE, MA — Gov. Charlie Baker got a sneak peek of the Green Line Extension last week, taking a test ride on a portion of the track. Baker rode from the relocated Lechmere Station to Union Square in Somerville. He joined transportation officials, as well as leaders from Somerville, in one of the new train cars, which were rolled out in early December. Baker said the project is "going to deliver an astonishing amount of not just public transportation for people, but an astonishing amount of economic opportunity and vitality." Passenger service is expected to begin on the Union Square branch, the shorter of the two branches, this spring. The Medford branch will open later this year.
