Police Identify Hit & Run Driver Who Injured 3 In Duxbury Crash

DUXBURY, MA — A serious crash on a highway in Duxbury lands a Scituate man in police custody after they say he immediately took off into the woods as three other drivers were being taken to the hospital. Richard T. Nohelty, 28, was arrested on charges including leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and speeding, according to Massachusetts State Police. The search for the hit-and-run driver began Sunday night just after 10 p.m. when police say Nohelty ran into the woods after a multi-car crash on Route 3 near exit 22 in Duxbury. Using helicopters and a K-9 unit, police were able to place Nohelty in custody around 11:40 p.m. Three people are currently hospitalized, with one person who Massachusetts State Police say suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. Nohelty, who police believe caused the crash, was taken to South Shore Hospital for an evaluation. Route 3 was completely shut down in that section for a portion of time Sunday night while crews worked to find the driver and investigate the scene. No further information was immediately available.
