GREENDALE, WI — Elementary school students in the Greendale School District will return to in-person classes on Tuesday, but middle and high school students will transition to virtual learning through at least Friday following a district-wide closure on Monday that was prompted by staff COVID-19 quarantines and isolation. The district announced Sunday that all classes were canceled on Monday because a high percentage of instructional staff were required to quarantine or isolate because of positive COVID-19 test results. Classes and scheduling for elementary school students will run on a normal schedule, and masks will be required for all students, staff, and visitors in Greendale's elementary schools, the district announcement signed by Superintendent Kim Amidzich said. The CDC advises isolation for those who have tested positive for COVID-19. Quarantining is when someone has come into close contact with someone else who has tested positive for COVID-19, the agency says. People who are fully vaccinated are advised to quarantine in cases where they become symptomatic, according to the CDC. The district says it continues to re-evaluate staffing availability and a plan for next week will be sent out on Friday. School families can expect schedule information from their respective principals for this week by the end of Monday. District middle and high school buildings will remain open for students who need to collect learning materials on Monday until 6 p.m., the district said, and curbside lunch will be available for middle and high school students at Greendale High School's circle drive between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. until Friday.
