SEATTLE, WA — Flight cancellations in and out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are slowing, but travelers can still expect some headaches early this week. As of Monday at around noon, 83 arrivals and departures had been canceled, and another 145 had been delayed, according to flight tracker FlightAware. Travelers yesterday weren't spared either, as FlightAware reported 62 cancellations and 462 delays at the airport on Sunday. Though those numbers seem high, they actually represent a decrease from last week's cancellation rate: On Sunday, Dec. 26, almost 250 flights in and out of Seattle were canceled amid snow and harsh winter weather. And the travel delays didn't slow later in the week, as Wednesday and Thursday saw almost 200 cancellations of flights scheduled to arrive or depart Seattle. In fact, the Seattle Times reported that on those days, SEA canceled more flights than any other airport in the world. On Dec. 31, SEA officials tweeted that higher than 80 percent of the airports's 1,500 flight cancellations in December occurred over "the last four days." SEA experienced almost 1,500 canceled flights in December and over 80% are just from the last four days. So you could say we're pretty pumped for this weekend's weather forecast with temperatures above freezing and for brighter skies ahead in 2022! 🥳 pic.twitter.com/8J6JwFGGH2— Seattle-Tacoma Intl. Airport (@flySEA) December 31, 2021 But the airport could see relief soon, as only two flights scheduled to arrive in Seattle tomorrow have been canceled — one from Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers and one from Baltimore-Washington International Airport. No cancellations or delays have been announced for Wednesday yet.
