Description

Press release from the Pierce County Government: December 28, 2021 Effective January 1, 2022, all new single family homes must be electric vehicle ready. This means the appropriate electrical supply and a parking space with EV charging or a nearby outlet for charging. Exceptions are made when there is no public utility or commercial power supply or the homes do not have garages or other on-site parking. Providing electric vehicle charging readiness at the time of construction supports and increases the use of electric vehicles and is more cost effective than retrofitting a structure with EV charging capability after construction. This change was initiated by the Pierce County Council with Ordinance 2021-46s and approved by the Washington State Building Code Council. More information can be found in PCC 17C.30.150. Please contact Nick Waggood, Building Official at [email protected] if you have any questions about this new requirement. This press release was produced by the Pierce County Government.
