EAST MEADOW, NY — The East Meadow School District announced it would be distributing take-home COVID-19 tests to families starting on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
Instead of giving out tests kits on a first-come, first-served basis, the district is requiring parents who want a kit to register in advance. They will be given a ticket, which they will have to print out and bring with them to receive a testing kit, or have it available on their phone.
East Meadow can register to receive a test by clicking here. The tests are limited to one per student.
Parents who are picking up a test kit for their elementary school students may also pick up a test for secondary students at the same time.
All of the tests will be distributed at the LJC Salisbury Center, with tests for different schools being distributed on different days.
You must arrive on the day of your child's school to pick up the tests. Distribution dates and times are:
Jan. 4: Bowling Green and Barnum Woods — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Jan. 5: McVey, Parkway and Meadowbrook — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 6: W.T. Clarke middle and high schools — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Jan. 7: Woodland Middle School and East Meadow High School — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Jan. 8: All schools — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.Parents who show up to pick up tests should remain in their cars and follow the directions of district security personnel at the site.
If your child is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, the district asks you to use the test on them. If the results come back positive, parents must report the positive test to the child's principal. They must also report it to the Nassau County Department of Health by clicking here.
