I-95 Southbound Shut Down For Crash Involving 6 Tractor-Trailers

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A crash involving six tractor-trailers shut down Interstate 95's southbound lanes in Stafford County for six hours on Monday afternoon, the Virginia Department of Transportation said. The crash and shut down occurred near exit 136 at Centreport Parkway. VDOT posted an alert about the crash at 12 p.m. on Monday afternoon. They did not immediately provide an estimate for when the highway would be reopened. In Fredericksburg, northbound I-95 was reduced to a single lane due to disable tractor-trailers near exit 140 at Courthouse Road. "We know many travelers are stopped behind these incidents + traffic blockages," the Virginia Department of Transportation's Fredericksburg wrote on Twitter. "Our crews and towing partners are working to reach incidents and clear them to reopen lanes, but intense snowfall rate continues at 1-2 inch. per hour." VDOT said their workers were attempting to reach stranded motorists on I-95 and clear incidents that are blocking roadways. They also reported that additional resources, staffing, and equipment are being deployed to the Fredericksburg area to assist with the storm response. The southbound lanes of I-95 were cleared around 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Updates about the crashes and traffic conditions will be posted on VDOT's Twitter page and the state's 511 website.
