Updated, 7:35 a.m. Monday POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Point Pleasant Borough School District officials have changed the delayed opening to a closure Monday for its schools Monday ahead of a winter storm that is predicted to bring at least 4 inches of snow to Ocean County. "Due to inclement weather, all district schools and offices will be closed today, Monday, January 3, 2022," the updated announcement on the district's website said. Morning and afternoon child care at Nellie Bennett and Ocean Road Elementary Schools is canceled as well. The closure is a traditional snow day; there is no provision for schools to shift to remote instruction for an emergency weather closure under state law. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for five counties, including Ocean, from 4 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday, warning that the storm could bring 4 to 6 inches and possibly more to the southeastern part of New Jersey. Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for those counties ahead of the storm, and urged people to be careful. "The anticipated winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, wind gusts, and coastal flooding in parts of Southern New Jersey," Murphy said. "Residents should stay off the roads, remain vigilant, and follow all safety protocols." The Ocean County Vocational-Technical Schools will be closed Monday because of the anticipated storm, including the evening adult school classes.
