PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield Police Department's holiday safety campaign has ended, and released numbers show police issued seven speeding tickets during the enforcement period that started Dec. 17 — significantly fewer than during the Thanksgiving campaign. Between Dec. 17 and Jan. 3, law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in the effort to get impaired drivers off roads and ensure people are buckled up. Department officials said extra emphasis was placed on enforcement during late-night hours, which statistics show is when most unbuckled and impaired driving deaths occur. During this time, Plainfield police issued a total of 33 tickets — two for suspended or revoked licenses, seven for speeding, 22 for seat belt and child safety, and two others, the department announced Monday. Compared to the Thanksgiving enforcement period, which lasted from Nov. 19 to Nov. 29, fewer tickets were doled out. During that campaign, Plainfield police issued a total of 133 tickets, including 28 for speeding and another 75 tickets regarding seat belts and child safety. Around Christmas and New Year's, police also made two drug-related arrests. During the last campaign, one person was arrested for impaired driving.
