Description
The Orland Park-based Northwestern Medicine Immediate Care center that closed in December to free up personnel for patient increases has since reopened, hospital officials told Patch.
Northwestern Medicine closed suddenly on Dec. 20. According to Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau, the hospital had not notified the village or the Orland Fire Protection Districts which takes patients to the emergency room that the facility would be shut down for a week.
Staff from Northwestern were transferred to Palos Hospital until Dec. 27 to help treat patients amidst the COVID-19 case surge.
A hospital official later acknowledged the village was not notified first but said the practice of closing temporarily each winter has been going on for years with the exception of 2020.
As of Jan. 3, all centers at the 15300 West Avenue facility were reopened.
