JOLIET, IL — A 24-year-old Joliet man who was arrested on New Year's Day is accused of attacking a woman he knows, injuries that prompted the Joliet Fire Department to bring the woman to St. Joe's hospital for treatment of her injuries, police said. Joliet police say David A. Franklin was booked into the Will County on Saturday on charges of aggravated domestic battery. Franklin resides in the 200 block of Third Avenue. Around 2:20 p.m., Joliet squad cars arrived at the house in the unit block of South William Street after learning of a domestic violence incident. Police say Franklin had attacked the woman inside the house before officers arrived. "Further investigation revealed that Franklin had become upset and began striking the victim in the head multiple times with an open hand and a closed fist," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "Franklin was on the scene and was placed into custody without incident." As for the victim, she sustained minor injuries to her head, and was taken to St. Joe's hospital by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance, authorities said. By 4 p.m. Sunday, Franklin was freed from the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $10,000 bail, jail logs show.
