JOLIET, IL — A 35-year-old Lockport woman is spending the start of 2022 behind bars at the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Heather Osmolski stole a purse from a customer inside Bobby's Tap while customers were celebrating New Year's.
Several hours later, Joliet police arrested Osmolski and charged her with identity theft, forgery and unlawful possession of an ID card.
According to police, officers responded to Bobby's Tap in the 1100 block of Plainfield Road around 3:10 a.m. New Year's Day after learning a purse was stolen.
The victim left her purse, which contained her phone and wallet, on her seat while she used the restroom, police reports show. When the victim returned to her bar stool in Bobby's Tap, she noticed her purse was missing and the people seating nearby had all left.
By 7:45 p.m., the victim notified Joliet police that she got an email alert regarding her recently stolen credit card. The thief tried to use the credit card at the Motel 6 in the 3500 block of Mall Loop Drive near I-55 and the Louis Joliet Mall, police indicated.
Joliet police went to the Motel 6 and determined that Osmolski had used the victim's credit card at the motel, authorities said.
Osmolski was staying at the motel and officers arrested her without any problems. Officers recovered the victim's identification and credit card, police reports show.
Osmolski was booked into the Will County Jail around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. She remained in custody on Monday, unable to post 10 percent of her $10,000 bail, jail logs show.
Osmolski lives in the 400 block of East 17th Street in Lockport.
