Description
PORTLAND, OR — The snow started early Monday morning and within just.a few hours, there were more than eight inches of snow covering I-84 through the Columbia River Gorge. The blizzard led to whiteout conditions.
That led the Oregon Department of Transportation to close a roughly 50-mile stretch of I-84 from Troutdale to The Dalles.
It's so bad that even the Hood River Sheriff's Office called it "Snowpocalypse 2022."
The sheriff's office says that there are "multiple stuck semi's and blizzard/white-out conditions. Remember those roads that were a solid sheet of ice yesterday? Let's just say they did not improve.
"Check on your friends that work in road maintenance, because they are not ok. Anyhow, allow us to reiterate that you really should stay home today."
Officials have no estimate on when the highway will reopen.
