NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Some Long Island intersections are more dangerous than others. The Nassau County Police Department wants residents to know where those dangerous intersections are, and to be more cautious when driving there.
The department just released its list of the 10 intersections with the highest number of crashes. All of the intersections are where local roads meet the Long Island Expressway and its service roads, the NCPD said.
And, as the new year begins, police will be stepping up traffic enforcement at these intersections to help reduce the number of crashes.
The intersections are:
South Oyster Bay Road, Syosset: 129 crashesSearingtown Road, North Hills: 110 crashesSouth Oyster Bay Expressway, Syosset: 100 crashesNorth Broadway, Jericho: 90 crashesSunnyside Boulevard, Woodbury: 78 crashesWillis Avenue, Roslyn Heights: 77 crashesMineola Avenue, Roslyn Heights: 68 crashesJericho Turnpike, Jericho: 64 crashesNorth Hyde Park Road, North Hills: 63 crashesGlen Cove Road, East Hills: 55 crashes In addition to increased enforcement, the Nassau County police gave tips for both drivers and pedestrians to keep themselves safe.
