Description

Help revive Codornices Creek, learn about nature and history on our area's only trout stream on MLK Jr. Day of Service On MLK Jr. Day of Service, join all-volunteer Friends of Five Creeks reviving nature in the city and learning fascinating local history. We'll control erosion, seed, and plant natives to revive a damaged area along Codornices Creek, our area's only trout stream. We'll also take a short walk to see other parts of this 25-year citizen effort to bring nature back to the city, looking back at fascinating local history, including polluting industries and environmental injustice. We'll meet at the log seating area on the west side of 8th Street, on the Berkeley-Albany border and the south edge of University Village. Tools, gloves, and light snacks provided. Bring a re-usable water bottle. Wear closed-toed shoes with good traction and dress in layers for changing weather, prepared to get dirty. We will work in light drizzle, but heavy rain postpones. Kids 9 and up, and especially teens, welcome.
