TOMORROW, Monday, January 3rd at 7:00 PM, Vandalia City Council will be voting to approve a conditional use permit for a trucking warehouse located at 9105 Peters Pike. The proposal has already passed through the Planning Commission with a 3-0 vote on Nov 23rd, RECOMMENDING APPROVAL of the permit. Approval may result in the construction of a 728,000 square foot warehouse with 199 trailer spaces and 162 loading docks. This 17-acre facility will be located in Vandalia, which means if a truck route is designated to keep tractor-trailers away from downtown, it will not apply to this facility. Although the warehouse will likely generate a sizable amount of tax revenue, it will come at the cost of hundreds of additional trucks on Vandalia streets. Community input has been minimal, if not entirely absent so far, and Monday’s meeting will be the last chance to advocate for or against the proposal.
