Harris Cain thought law school would give him freedom to chart his own course in life. Instead, embarking on a career in Washington, D.C., he felt shackled to chance.
Seeking authenticity and adventure, Harris and his wife, Willow, leave their comfortable jobs to live in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Embarking on the expat adventure, they lived, traveled, and practiced law in the Caribbean.
The Cains experienced the richness of travel, freedom, and fate set against the kaleidoscope of Caribbean life and culture. They met others–Virgin Islanders and expatriates alike– some riveted to the art of living, others fleeing from the long shadows of their pasts.
There is soca and sorrell wine, callalloo and centipedes. Above all, it is a journey into the vibrant, crowded, beating heart of bedlam.
Justin Caine Harrell was born in Clearwater, Florida. He attended the University of Florida just in time to see the Gators win the 1996 National Championship. Later, he expatriated to New Orleans, Louisiana where he attended Loyola University, School of Law. He met his wife, Autumn, in first-year Torts and proposed to her four months later at a Houma, Louisiana Mardi Gras ball. They currently reside in New Orleans.
