2nd Fire In East Patchogue Area In A Day Breaks Out On New Year's

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — Firefighters were called to a fire that broke out New Year's Day at a home in East Patchogue — the second in the area over the span of about 18 hours, though no one was injured. The fire broke out in a detached garage at a home on Washington Avenue at about 1:45 p.m., Suffolk police said. Its cause was not immediately available from police. A home and a vehicle were also damaged on Scherger Avenue in a blaze that broke out at about 6:20 a.m. on New Year's Eve. Four different agencies were called to the scene at about 6:20 a.m. on Friday, and the fire was knocked down, police said. All together, two fire departments, including Hagerman and North Patchogue, as well as the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal's office, and officers from the 5th Precinct responded to the fire. The fire marshal's office is working to determine the fire's cause, police said. No one was injured in either fire.
