One-hour live chamber music, featuring string musicians from the NSO String Musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra Marissa Regni, violin | Marina Aikawa, violin | Tsuna Sakamoto, viola | Eugena Chang, cello “The String Thing” Heather LeDoux Green, violin | Paul DeNola, bass | Jeffrey Weisner, bass Musical laughs meet exquisite harmony when musicians from the National Symphony play Haydn’s witty String Quartet in E-flat – nicknamed “The Joke,” appropriately for a composer noted for his sense of humor as well as for being the “Father of the String Quartet.” The program also features “Southern Harmony” by Pulitzer-winning composer Jennifer Higdon, a gentle musical portrait of the South where she grew up. Then hilarious duo “The String Thing” leads a Guess the Composer Challenge. Test your knowledge of the great works of classical music – and see if special guest Jeff Weisner can keep his NSO colleagues on their best behavior! ProgramString Quartet in E-flat, Opus 33 No. 2, "The Joke" (Haydn)"Southern Harmony" (Higdon) Presenting musicians from the National Symphony Concerts presented at 5pm and 6:30pm. Concerts take place rain or shine, but in case of severe weather, the rain date will be Wednesday. This is one of 14 programs being offered through June 2022. Audience members are required to wear masks, as will staff and musicians when not performing. Due to COVID, guests are strongly encouraged to avoid using public restrooms. If needed, restrooms will be available upon request. Please note: Seating will be provided for concerts. Chairs will be socially distanced between individuals or groups. To maximize social distancing, seating will be assigned by the presenters. Tickets are non refundable. Classical Movements has a small fund to offer limited discounted tickets to veterans, students, underprivileged families, and disabled concert-goers, with the generous support of John H. Visitors are encouraged to bike, walk or take the Metrorail Yellow or Blue lines to the King Street Station and take the free King Street Trolley, or DASH or Metro buses.
