Description
EVERGREEN PARK, IL — With a winter storm warning in effect through Sunday afternoon for McHenry, Lake, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Will counties, the region is about to get clobbered by up to eight inches of snow New Year's weekend. Evergreen Park residents should be prepared for the village to enact its snow parking rules.
Residents are asked to do their best to aid in snow removal efforts on side streets by getting their cars off the street following the village's "odd-even" snow parking rules.
Village plows and street crews will hit the main business thoroughfares (Kedzie, 95th Street) before tackling the residential streets. Alleys are the last priority.
For residents who need help with snow removal, the Evergreen Park Youth Department has a full list of young people who are available to do hand-shoveling for a small fee (they do not drive or operate plows). The Youth Department can be reached at (708) 229-3377.
Whenever two or more inches of snow falls within 24 hours in the Village of Evergreen Park, all vehicles are required to comply with the following, according to the ordinances:
All vehicles shall be parked on the even side of the street on even days and on the odd side of the street on odd days. For the purpose of definition of this section, even and odd sides of street shall pertain to even and odd house numbers. For the purpose of definition of this section, the term "day" shall mean that day during which the accumulation takes place by 7:00 a.m." It's also against village rules to stop, stand, park or leave a vehicle unattended on streets designated "snow routes." When removing snow off your own property, remember you're not allowed to blow or shovel snow into the streets.
