OGRE with Thems That Wait & Razorburn City ALL AGES OGRE with Thems That Wait & Razorburn City For over 20 years, Portland, Maine’s OGRE has been bringing its unique brand of vintage 70s rock and doom metal to audiences both local and global. Formed in 1999 by members Will Broadbent (drums), Ed Cunningham (bass/vocals), and Ross Markonish (guitar), OGRE spent its early years building up a local following through frequent gigs, eventually releasing a self-recorded demo in 2000, followed by the band’s debut album, Dawn of the Proto-Man, in 2003. Both of these releases garnered the attention of many fans of the then-burgeoning stoner rock scene, earning the band rave reviews across the globe. In 2006, the band signed with Japan’s Leaf Hound Records, which released OGRE’s second and third albums (2006’s Seven Hells and 2008’s Plague of the Planet). The success of these albums led to OGRE’s first international trip: a 2008 Japan tour with label mates Blood Farmers (NYC) and Church of Misery (Japan). During this period, OGRE also played various gigs up and down the East Coast, including appearances at several high-profile festivals such as Baltimore’s Doom or Be Doomed Fest in 2007. Though OGRE took a hiatus in 2009 (after celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary), they could not be silent for long. A 2012 reunion show in Portland reinvigorated the band, leading to the writing of new material and the eventual release of a fourth album, The Last Neanderthal, on Italy’s Minotauro Records (with a vinyl deluxe version later released on Irish label Pariah Child Records). Another international trip, this time to Arkhangelsk, Russia to play the Belomor-Boogie festival, inspired OGRE to write and release its most recent album, 2019’s Thrice as Strong, released on Italy’s Cruz del Sur Music. Like the rest of the world, OGRE was laid low by the plague of the planet (aka the Covid pandemic), but they are ready to return to the stages of Portland in 2022.
