Description

Children will learn about Braille, guide dogs, assistive technologies, and challenges experienced by the visually impaired or blind. Who this in person service event is for: Ages 6-12. Adult caregivers are required to accompany child participants. Due to the nature of this event, we ask that children and siblings outside this age group do not attend. What you'll be doing: Families will connect with our friends at Foundation Fighting Blindness and Goodwill Columbus to learn about Braille, guide dogs, and assistive technologies for people with visual impairments. Kids will gain awareness of challenges that blind members of our community face, and will be trained to safely and confidently be “human guides”. Kids will have the opportunity to ask questions of people who are visually impaired or blind, and even get to experiment with what it might feel like to be blind. A snack will be provided, though you'll be asked to eat it blindfolded! Allergen Statement: This event involves foods that contain wheat and dairy. Please notify Molly at [email protected] if you or your child has any food allergies or special dietary needs. We will do our best to accommodate. COVID-19 Protocol for In Person Events: Masks are required at this event regardless of vaccination status. Please review our COVID-19 Protocol for In Person Programming before registering for this event. Specific Instructions: Please bring a mask for everyone. All other supplies will be provided. If possible, please work with your child(ren) to gather a few donations of used eyeglasses to donate to Lions Recycle For Sight Program. Why you'll be asked to donate: Every time we're able to design, coordinate, and offer an opportunity for kids to give back, it's with the help of supporters like you. Please consider making a generous gift to help us continue to empower kids to create a kinder community with their hearts, hands, and minds. We empower kids to create a kinder community with their hearts, hands, and minds. Check back frequently, as we post new service opportunities on the 1st and 15th of each month.
