Description

Come catch your breath, re-connect with yourself, and find restorative REST at our first Yoga Nidra Workshop with instructor Sara Beck. Resting in Light: A Yoga Nidra Practice for Deep Relaxation and Awakened Creativity Do you ever feel like you can’t catch your breath? That you are buzzing with a never-complete to-do list, always thinking of what needs to be done, what has not been done, what should be done? Do you feel exhausted and lethargic or revved up and restless? Do you ever feel disconnected and at odds with your true self, like you’re living on the surface of your many roles, identities and responsibilities but wanting to dive deep beneath all of it into a quieter space of connection? Do you crave deep and abiding rest? Yoga Nidra is often translated as the ‘yoga of sleep,’ and the practice of it offers an opportunity to return to rest. It is an ancient technique that uses guided meditation, breath consciousness, body/sensory awareness, and visualization to invite us into a place of quiet, surrender, and trust. While resting on the threshold of waking and sleeping, held in a strong container of love, a kind of magical medicine gently washes our body-mind-heart self. In that space of ‘wakeful sleep,’ we restore, reconnect, and realign with our true nature. Old, painful patterning in our psyche gets cleared. Deep wounds receive a healing balm. The sense that we are separate from ourselves, others, and the source of all Life gets smoothed away. There in that quiet integrated state, we remember that we are inherently whole and luminous, and we become available to levels of ease, vision, and creativity that we forgot were possible. In this workshop, you will be guided on a journey of this re-membering. First, we will discuss a few concepts of the Yoga Nidra tradition. Then you will be guided through a short gentle movement practice to open and connect with the body. From there, you will lie down (or sit if lying down is painful) in a supported, comfortable position – similar to savasana at the end of a yoga class – and you will be led through Yoga Nidra. After the practice, you will have an opportunity to journal about your experience and share thoughts, perceptions, and questions within the safe container of our group. No yoga or movement experience is necessary! All are welcome! Only a willing, curious and receptive heart is needed. Also, a few practical items needed: - a mat or blanket (or both) to lie down on… and anything else that might allow you be comfortable. You could bring a pillow for your head or for under the knees or one more blanket or towel. Registration is $35 per person.
