GREENWICH, CT — The town's distribution of at-home coronavirus test kit scheduled to take place Thursday has been canceled due to a delay in receiving the kits from the state, according to town officials. In a statement Thursday morning, First Selectman Fred Camillo said the town was informed by the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection that an overnight flight that would have delivered 500,000 COVID-19 test kits to Connecticut was delayed. "Therefore, it is with great disappointment that we must cancel the distribution plans that we organized for Thursday, Dec. 30," Camillo said in a statement. "It is my hope that the state will have these test kits in hand before requiring municipalities around the state to announce distribution plans." Camillo thanked residents in advance for understanding the situation was beyond the town's local control and encouraged them to check the town website and local media for updates on when test kits will be available. The postponement comes following Gov. Ned Lamont's announcement Wednesday evening that the state's anticipated shipment of COVID-19 at-home rapid tests were delayed on the west coast.
