Press release from the City of San Antonio: December 14, 2021 CONTACT: Stacey Norton, Department of Arts & Culture 210-207-6960, [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (December 14, 2021) – Two new installations in the "Bloom" sculpture series are ready for locals and visitors to enjoy. The City of San Antonio's Department of Arts & Culture and its Public Art Division, in partnership with the Parks & Recreation Department, shared today that the latest "blossoms" can be found at Mario Farias Park (1012 Leal St.) and the new Brazos Pocket Park (800 Chihuahua St.). These radiant, oversized metal flowers are created by San Antonio Artist Leticia Huerta and made from elements that, up close, resemble larger-than-life bicycle parts. The artwork takes inspiration from cyclists and trail enthusiasts in addition to the native wildflowers found throughout San Antonio. When completed in Summer 2022, there will be a total of seven San Antonio parks in which 17 "Bloom" flowers can be found. The plants represented at each location were informed by the residents of San Antonio through the Department of Arts & Culture's extensive public art engagement process. "This series showcases what is possible when our community joins together to shape public art throughout our city," said Department of Arts & Culture Interim Executive Director Krystal Jones. "Each time you visit a 'Bloom' installation, you will be able to observe what flowers San Antonio residents love most in our parks and natural areas. I hope all of San Antonio is proud of these new outdoor landmarks, which are organic to each location and offer an authentic reflection of a place, nature, and this moment in time."
