Description

Press release from the Colorado Springs Fire Department: December 22, 2021 Last update 12/30/2021 The fire on Blodgett Peak is 90 percent contained. The U.S. Forest Service reports there is one remaining hot spot. They say no smoke is visible and the area is surrounded by rocks. Fire crews remain on scene with roaming patrols. The fire broke out in the early morning hours of December 22. The U.S. Forest Service and the Colorado Springs Fire Department worked together in response. Firefighters hiked into the area and cleared trees and flammable materials. Helicopters were flown and conducted water drops and Multi Mission Aircraft conducted flyovers scanning for hot spots. In all, the fire burned less than an acre. The fire initially prompted a pre-evacuation notice to the area west of Woodman Road off of Blodgett Drive. That notice was later lifted. Blodgett Open Space was also closed but has reopened.
