Here are the top five stories in Sacramento today: In advance of the coming low overnight temperatures, Sacramento County is opening two warming center locations over the weekend. Protective facial coverings will be required and provided to all visitors. Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash or contained in an animal carrier at all times. Blankets, snacks and water will be provided. The new warming centers will be: December 31 - January 2: DHA Annex (1725 28th St) 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. and January 1 - 2: Creekside Adult School (2641 Kent Dr) 8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m (Saccounty.gov)Authorities say a Sacramento man arrested in Iowa had an assault rifle, ammunition and a "hit list" that named President Joe Biden, former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, and others. He told investigators that he left his home in Sacramento on Dec. 18 to drive straight to the White House to kill people in power. Kuachua Xiong is charged with one count of making threats to a former president. The defendant's attorneys filed a notice Thursday that he intends to rely on an insanity defense. (FOX40) A man has died after a shooting in Sacramento County on Thursday night, authorities said. The shooting happened at the 4700 block of Roosevelt Ave. about 5:45 p.m. No one else was reported injured in the shooting. Authorities are searching for a suspect. (KCRA3) KCRA 3 is teaming up with Vitalant for the annual Blood Drive for Life, which this year is taking place on Jan. 5-8 across two locations in Rocklin and Sacramento. One man helping meet the need has donated 2,800 times. That translates to 350 gallons of blood products! Gary Myers has been donating plasma for years. Myers said he first started donating in college. Today, he's somewhat of a legend at Vitalant. Officials say he may have saved thousands of lives. You can sign up for this year's blood drive here. (KCRA3) Firefighters in Arden-Arcade responded to two early morning fires on Thursday, with the second one reported at a home mere blocks away from the first. Nobody was hurt in the first fire as no one was home at the time, officials reported. No information was available for the second fire. The event takes place from Jan. 7 through Jan. 17, 2022. Another chance for stormy weather is in the forecast early next week. This will bring renewed chances for mountain travel impacts, possible power outages and downed trees. Be sure to take advantage of the next few days of quiet weather to prepare.
