CONCORD, NH — While the odds are one in 292.2 million, New Hampshire lottery players could be nearly a half-billion dollars richer in 2022.
According to the New Hampshire Lottery, Saturday's Powerball jackpot is expected to be around $483 million. The one-time cash payout, before taxes, should be around $347.7 million.
"With the Powerball jackpot nearing the half-a-billion-dollar mark, this is the ultimate opportunity for a lucky New Hampshire player to become the first multimillionaire of 2022," Charlie McIntyre, the executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery said. "Get your tickets now for a chance to win. We are all hoping to toast a New Hampshire winner come New Year's Day."
McIntyre said Powerball sales in 2021 were about 70 percent more than in 2020. He added, with three drawings a week, and large jackpots occurring every few months, the lottery commission expected sales growth to continue into the New Year.
More than $2.3 billion has been contributed to education funding in New Hampshire since the mid-1960s based on lottery revenue.
The last Powerball jackpot win was in early October when a player from California hit a nearly $700 million jackpot.
Tickets are on sale at more than 1,200 retailers statewide, and online at NH iLottery.
