PORTLAND, OR — This past season was stellar for Bella Bixby. It was her first season minding the net for the Portland Thorns. In the process, she tied the NWSL record for the fewest goals allowed (17) in a season, she made the league's Second Team and led the league with a .69 goals-against average. And for that, she's being rewarded with a 3-year contract. "Bella's leadership on and off the field is integral to the core of this team," Thorns general manager Karina LeBlanc, said. "She is a part of our long-term vision for the club, and keeping Bella in her hometown remains a priority of ours." Bixby grew up in Milwaukie and went to Oregon State University. The Thorns drafted her from there in 2018. "Bella is a young and talented goalkeeper that has a very high ceiling," Thorns FC goalkeeper coach Nadine Angerer said. "A key part of a strong spine, she is calm and composed under pressure with a strong ability to read the game and make smart decisions, while her character has made a positive impact inside the locker room."
