Description

The Carver Genealogy Center presents 4th Saturday Seminars! Facilitated by Debbe Tipping, this presentation will give you an overview of the records created for African American people after emancipation, during the civil war, and during slavery as well as where to find these records. Examples from African American research will be used to highlight challenges and possible avenues to resolve them. These 4th Saturday Genealogy Seminars will start with a Carver staff overview of the resources of the Genealogy Center at 1 p.m. followed by her presentation from 2-3 p.m. Debbe Tipping has been conducting genealogy research for more than 20 years. More recently she has been focusing on forensic genealogy with the intent of finding current living relatives of repatriated service members from past military conflicts. She earned a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (P.L.C.G.S.) credential in American Records from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies. Debbe is currently pursuing certification through the Board for Certification of Genealogists. Through the preservation and exhibition of African American material culture, history, and aesthetic expression, the Carver Museum works to create a space where the global contributions of all Black people are celebrated. We accomplish this by telling stories about our local community and connecting those histories to larger narratives about Blackness.
