Experience conservation in ACTION with a bird research and paddle trip!
All proceeds go back to wildlife protection.
Join us for Nova Conservation’s first in-person event on April 23, 2022!
We’ll spend the morning paddling out to Maclellan Island, a true jewel in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. The island is owned by Chattanooga Audubon Society, a local nonprofit.
Your contribution to this event helps CAS restore the biodiversity and ecological function of the island, specifically as an bird migration “stopover” spot.
We will be taking paddleboards [sponsored by Outshine Adventures] and kayaks from a downtown boat dock to Maclellan Island.
Once docked, we will observe research-focused bird banding, a process in which birds are safely extracted from nets and “banded”- which is a unique marker on the bird.
Dr. David Aborn from UTC will be leading this experience. He holds a Master Bander permit and has conducted ornithological research for the past 30 years.
Additionally, Laura Marsh, the founder of Nova Conservation, will be present to lead a bird hike around the island, right at the peak of spring migration!
Get an up-close view of the most beautiful birds in our area, such as cardinals, tanagers, buntings, warblers, and more!
