Good morning, Norfolk! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate the New Year, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Norfolk Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today. First, today's weather: Rather cloudy and mild. High: 61 Low: 53. Here are the top 3 stories today in Norfolk: The Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters has changed its visitor policies in response to a surge of recorded pediatric COVID-19 cases. The new policy limits visitation to two designated visitors for the duration of each inpatient stay, with only one visitor at a time allowed at the bedside. The change comes after the hospital reported the highest amount of coronavirus cases recorded on any one day during the pandemic on Thursday. (WAVY.com) Fire crews with the Chesapeake Fire Department and Norfolk Fire-Rescue extinguished a blaze at The Dog House restaurant on Liberty Street Thursday morning. The fire department was made aware of the incident after a passerby called to report smoke coming from a roof vent at the family-owned restaurant. Crews were able to contain the fire, and there were no employees in the restaurant when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (WAVY.com) Indian Creek Correctional has temporarily suspended in-person visitations due to COVID-19. Officials from the facility say two inmates have active cases of the virus, but there are no inmates currently hospitalized. The jail also reports six active cases among the facility's staff and contractors. (wtkr.com) Today's Norfolk Daily is brought to you in part by our friends at Verizon.
