SILVER SPRING, MD — A Virginia man is accused of drug trafficking after police in Silver Spring found marijuana, a handgun and cash in his vehicle. Montgomery County Police officers made the traffic stop on Dec. 18, but the arrest wasn't made public until Dec. 28.
Officers from the Third District Crime Suppression Task Force arrested Tensai Berha Newold Gebremariam, 26, of Virginia for illegally possessing a 9mm handgun loaded with seven hollow-point, "RIP" (Radically Invasive Projectile) rounds, marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Officers stopped a Cadillac Gebremariam was driving about 9 p.m. Dec. 18 after it ran the red light at Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue.
Marijuana, a marijuana grinder and an empty handgun holster were seen in the car, police said. Gebremariam told officers a handgun was inside the Cadillac.
A loaded 9mm handgun with a magazine containing seven hollow-point "RIP Rounds" was located in a backpack behind the passenger seat, the police report said.
A separate backpack that held about a half pound of marijuana, a digital scale, an undisclosed amount of cash and other items used in illicit drug sales were also seized from the vehicle.
Gebremariam was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. He is being held without bond.
