Press release from the University of Houston-Downtown: December 13, 2021 The groundwork began in September when the UHD Strategic Planning Committee convened for the first time. As the Committee's work continues the University's strategic plan, "A New Paradigm … For Houston's Most Diverse Public University," conversations on campus are happening. A most recent conversation, "A New Paradigm for UHD Students," features Dr. Heather Goltz, UHD Professor of Social Work and UHD student Mahalia Ogude, who serves as a Strategic Planning Committee and is Speaker of the House for the Student Government Association. The talk centered about a variety of topics from graduation rates as it relates to bettering the student body to more course availability for diverse learners to student life (on-campus volunteer opportunities) and much more. Recently, the Gator student body was invited to participate in a survey to garner feedback on its thoughts on long-term goals are needed to accomplish its mission as a public, urban university. The UHD community will continue to receive monthly progress updates via UHD News and Gator Update e-newsletters. However, as the Strategic Planning Committee delves deeper into its work, they are asking for input, advice and insight from all UHD constituents. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to follow the planning process at UHD's Strategic Planning Process | University of Houston-Downtown, to participate in surveys, engage on social media, and help develop the future of this great institution as Houston's most diverse public university.
