HACKENSACK, NJ — Dino Tomassetti, the Brooklyn-based bodybuilder accused of shooting his parents on Christmas morning, was arraigned on attempted murder charges in New York on Wednesday. Tomassetti had been held in Bergen County Jail after his arrest in Mahwah on Christmas, but waived his extradition right prior to the arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead. He's charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder. A report from CBS2 revealed new updates from the Nassau County Police Department, which stated that the shooting occurred during a dispute over Dino Tomassetti's 1-year-old son. Tomassetti attempted to take his son, who he does not have custody of, from his parents and the child's mother on Christmas morning. It was during that dispute when Tomassetti shot his mother in the head, and his father in the back. When he ran out of bullets, police said, he struck his father in the head with the weapon. A news release from Nassau County police said both were alert when officers arrived at their $3.2-million property on Seawane Drive in Hewlett Harbor, and both have since been released from the hospital, according to a Patch report. After the shooting, Tomassetti fled across state lines into Mahwah. According to local police, they received information from the New York State Police that Tomassetti was being pursued as a result of a felony warrant for an attempted murder and shooting out of Nassau County. Several New York law enforcement agencies were actively pursuing Tomassetti as he entered into Mahwah. According to police, Tomassetti fled south bound on Route 17 into Mahwah. The suspect vehicle came to a stop in the area of Rt. 17 south and Rt. 202 in the township, when law enforcement personnel from the New York State Police, the Nassau County Police Department, the Rockland County Sheriff's Department, the Ramapo Police Department and the Mahwah Police Department were able to "tactically and successfully remove Mr. Tomassetti from his 2017 White Escalade; without incident."
