Odd-Even Parking, Weather Reminders As Winter Storm Approaches

ROMEOVILLE, IL — With a winter storm expected just in time for 2022, there are several reminders for Romeoville residents about what to do when there's winter weather. Over six inches of snow is possible on New Year's Day, according to the National Weather Service. Romeoville's snow parking ordinance goes into effect when two inches of snow has fallen, according to the Village. The ordinance enacts odd-even parking, which requires residents to park along the odd-numbered side of the streets on odd-numbered calendar days, and on the even side of the street on even calendar days. The fine for snow-related parking violations is $50, the Village said. Officers will patrol village streets and issue parking citations and a 24-hour tow notice to vehicles in violation of the ordinance. These restrictions do not apply to Grand Haven, Highpoint, Wespark (besides Wespark Parkway, Wespark Circle and Wespark Boulevard), Lakewood Falls (unincorporated), Carillon, Remington, Malibu Bay Townhomes and Romeo Gardens, according to the Village. The Village also asks that residents put their garbage cans in the driveway or in the grass, not in the street. Putting cans in the street forces snow plows to weave around the cans, and the street won't get cleaned as well, the Village said. Residents should also avoid snow blowing or shoveling snow into the street. The weather service is not confident on how much snow will fall or where the highest snowfall will occur, but confidence in 5 to 6+ inches of snow is high.
