WILL COUNTY, IL — The Forest Preserve District of Will County has multiple volunteer opportunities for its January, February and March workdays. The workdays are offered throughout the year, and allow participants a chance to contribute to their community, support their local environment, meet fellow nature-lovers, and get some fresh air and exercise, the preserve said in a release. The January-March workdays will involve cutting invasive trees and shrubs and dragging them to a designated location, said Emily Kenny, the Forest Preserve District's volunteer services supervisor. Brush pile burns may occur during these habitat management mornings, so wearing old clothes that could get dirty or singed is recommended, the preserve said. No matter what the location or day-of conditions, there is always plenty of work to do, Kenny added. "It is a good workout most days and a participant's sense of accomplishment will, hopefully, soothe any aching muscles," she said. An RSVP for the Forest Preserve District's volunteer workdays is required for all individuals and groups. You can call Kenny at 815.722.7364 or email [email protected]. Volunteer workdays are set for 8 a.m. to noon unless otherwise noted. Volunteers should dress for outdoor work and the weather.
