BRADLEY, IL — The Kankakee County Coroner's Office has identified the officer slain while responding to a complaint at a Bradley hotel as Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic. A procession in her honor will step off at 2 p.m. Thursday from Bryan R. Mitchell, MD Forensic Center in Kankakee, heading to the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, 295 Main St NW in Bourbonnais.
"Those who wish to pay their respects and honor Sergeant Rittmanic are encouraged to safely gather on sidewalks along the route," the coroner's office said on Facebook.
The procession's route is as follows:
1. Leave Bryan R. Mitchell, MD Forensic Center at 2 p.m.2. North on Route 45/52 from 3500 South Road3. Continue north on Schuyler Avenue past Court Street (Illinois Route 17) to Broadway Street in Bradley4. West on Broadway Street to Michigan Avenue5. Brief stop outside the Bradley Police Department6. South on Michigan Avenue to Congress Street7. West on Congress Street to Wabash Avenue8. North on Wabash Avenue to Broadway Street9. West on Broadway Street to Kennedy Drive10. North on Kennedy Drive to Main Street11. Main Street (Route 45/52) to Main Street North West12. Main Street North West to Olde Oak Drive13. Arrive at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes (Approximately 2:30pm)
Rittmanic was one of two officers shot Wednesday night while responding to a report of barking dogs left unattended in a car outside a Comfort Inn in Bradley. The other officer was in critical condition and was undergoing surgery, police said.
Police were searching for a man wanted in connection with the shooting, as well as an unidentified second person of interest.
