Press release from City of Berkeley: December 15, 2021 Berkeley, California (Wednesday, December 15, 2021) - On the afternoon of December 9th, officers arrested a 39-year-old male suspect on suspicion of sexual battery to a developmentally disabled adult. Around 3 pm, a City of Berkeley Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) was walking in the Downtown Berkeley area (near Target), when she observed the suspect sexually batter the victim. Thanks to the quick thinking of the PEO, officers were able to detain the suspect, as he was walking out of a store in the Downtown area. The PEO and another witness identified the suspect on scene. The suspect is a transient in the City of Berkeley. The suspect (a 39-year-old man) was arrested. On December 10th, the Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged the suspect with PC 243.4(e)—sexual battery. This press release was produced by City of Berkeley.
