BERKELEY, CA — Police arrested a 58-year-old man Tuesday as a suspect in a hit-and-run collision that injured an 83-year-old woman crossing the street on the city's west side. Officers responded to an 11:29 a.m. report of the collision in the intersection of Gilman and Tenth streets. Police said the woman was crossing the street in a crosswalk when she was knocked to the ground by a vehicle that fled the scene. Police obtained video footage of the collision captured by another vehicle approaching the intersection. The victim was transported to a local hospital with unspecified injuries. Additional video footage from a nearby hotel helped police locate and arrest the driver, who was hiding in one of the hotel rooms. Police have not released the identity of the driver, whom they arrested on suspicion of several offenses, including hit-and-run causing injury, driving while unlicensed and a parole violation.
