WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Candidate for New York Governor and former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said he has COVID-19. The well-know Republican political figure told his Twitter followers that he tested positive on Wednesday and he is already feeling better. Astorino wrote that he is vaccinated and encouraged others to consider getting the shot. "Just FYI," Astorino wrote in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon. "I tested positive for Covid yesterday. I feel better today. Cold-like symptoms. Going to spend the next couple days just watching some shows and movies. Any good recommendations?" Astorino has been critical of both vaccination and mask mandates in the past, but he has framed the issue as a matter of personal choice, rather than encouraging people to not be vaccinated. Most recently he staged an event at Mount Vernon High School blasting school officials for temporarily moving to a remote learning model in the face of the recent spike in COVID-19 cases as a result of the emergence of the omicron variant. "I've been vaccinated," Astorino wrote in a Twitter post in May 2021. "I encourage others to get the vaccine - especially older adults & those w/ pre-existing conditions. Talk w/ your doctor. But I strongly oppose vaccine passports and gov't forcing medical decisions on citizens. And no requirement for children." I tested positive for Covid yesterday. I feel better today. Cold-like symptoms. I'm vaccinated. I encourage those esp in high-risk categories to talk w/ their Dr & consider getting the shot. It won't prevent you from getting infected but it should help w/ severity of illness.— Rob Astorino (@RobAstorino) December 30, 2021 SEE ALSO: Mayor Schools Astorino Over Criticism Of Remote Learning Plan Rob Astorino Will Run For NY Governor A Second Time
