Here are the top 3 stories today in Mobile: Students and staff at all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Mobile must wear masks through Jan. 21, the archdiocese announced Thursday. Due to the rapidly increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Alabama, the requirement will impact all school personnel and students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Precautions will be re-evaluated by Jan. 21, and principals will contact families with more information. (FOX10 News)The grandmother of two injured children is speaking out as they became the latest victims of gun violence in Mobile. Police rushed to Clarke Street on Tuesday night after someone opened fire on a home, hitting 9-year-old and 6-year-old boys while they slept in their beds. The boy's grandmother said the children will survive, but suffered horrific wounds from what appears to be a high-powered firearm. (utv44.com)A new plan from the State Port Authority is raising eyebrows among Mobile County residents. The current plan is to use dredging sediment to create a 1200 acre island in Mobile Bay south of the Causeway; however, some are questioning how the project may affect the quality of the area's water.
