The Forum is a conversation and speaker series that brings people together to explore challenges and opportunities that affect human flourishing through the lens of the humanities and civic imagination. Please join us for the January 18, 2022 gathering of The Forum featuring Jeffrey Davis on "Why Wonder Now?" Jeffrey Davis is an author, strategist, team culture consultant, and CEO of Tracking Wonder Consultancy. For over 25 years, he's inspired thousands of change-makers, leaders, and creatives to unlock their best ideas through the pursuit of curiosity, innovation, and wonder. Beyond grit, focus, and 10,000 hours of practice lies a surprising advantage that all creatives have - wonder. Far from child's play, wonder is the one radical quality that has led exemplary people from all walks of life to move toward the fruition of their deepest dreams and wildest endeavors. In this forum, we will explore how "the lost art of wonder" opens a pathway to greater creativity and fulfillment. We'll learn about the six facets of wonder, young genius, and the connection between wonder and human flourishing in community life. We'll consider how wonder can help us pursue big ideas, navigate uncertainty, and crack open authenticity and meaning. Our setting will be the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Jeffrey Davis works with innovators, professionals, writers, scientists, and social psychologists, offering them leading insights into the creative process. He writes for Psychology Today and other outlets on the intersections between creativity, work, and human flourishing. He has taught and is a highly sought -after speaker at numerous conferences, universities, and centers nationwide. He’s author of the books Tracking Wonder (Sounds True Publishing), The Journey from the Center to the Page (Penguin; Monkfish Publishing) the poetry collections City Reservoir (BarnBurner Press) and Coat Thief (Saint Julian Press). Jeffrey believes in the power of wonder to transform lives, spark influence, and help human beings thrive creatively in times of rampant challenge and change. Ultimately, he challenges people not to give up on their ideals and dreams. He lives with his wife and two daughters in a farmhouse in the Hudson Valley of New York. Connect. Consider. Ignite. The program runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time including time for conversation, connections, and Q&A. The Forum has a three-part structure: • First third: Participants connect and build relationships in small break-out groups prompted by a question; • Middle third: Participants consider a presentation by our guest speaker that ends with the speaker posing a community-facing question; • Final third: Participants discuss the question, igniting new ideas and interactions. Guests will receive a free entrance ticket to return to the Bechtler Museum. The Bechtler Museum's current installation: Isaac Julien: Lina Bo Bardi - A Marvelous Engagement - an immersive, multilayered film exhibition examining Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi, runs through February 22, 2022.
