Uptown Laundry presents the ANTI-GALA, an event raising funds for prison abolition! Performances by: Fat Tony, Delish Da Goddess, Sly Watts Uptown Laundry presents the ANTI-GALA, an event raising funds for prison abolition! The event will take place on January 22, the same night as Prospect.5’s Gala. Our aim is to center radical community building and reject elitist institutional grandeur. Uptown Laundry brings artists together with revolutionary thinkers and orgs to support radical art, direct action and mutual aid. Prospect (a contemporary art event that happens every three years in New Orleans) brings in millions of dollars in grants and donations, little of which ends up in the hands of local artists and community organizers. As an organization we are committed to raising and directing funds towards abolition and reparations, not reinforcing wealthy institutions that charge $400 a ticket for their events. Come party with us while we raise funds for Operation Restoration; an organization that provides currently and formerly incarcerated femmes with access to the resources they need! Founded in New Orleans in 2021, the project funds support for people effected by housing injustice, incarceration, climate change and other paradigms that exist due to ongoing white cis-hetero patriarchal violence against marginalized people.This includes commissary for incarcerated individuals, bail for protestors, as well as art production and publishing for BIPOC artists whose practice is anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist.
